The Mekasentron UX150 Hydrogen Optical Flame Detector is an advanced, high-performance ultraviolet and infrared combined flame detection device engineered and manufactured by Mekasentron Inc. (Korea). The detector is specifically configured to overcome the most critical safety challenge in the clean hydrogen energy sector: the rapid detection of invisible Hydrogen ($H_2$) flames. Hydrogen combustion produces zero smoke, no carbon particulates, and virtually no visible light, rendering standard optical sensors and the human eye blind to daylight hydrogen fire outbreaks.
The operating architecture of the UX150 Hydrogen combines a solar-blind narrow-band Ultraviolet (UV) sensor with a specialized Infrared (IR) sensor tuned to the thermal emission bands of superheated water vapor generated during hydrogen combustion ($2H_2 + O_2 \rightarrow 2H_2O$). An integrated 32-bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP) executes real-time spectral cross-correlation and optical flicker frequency analysis. This dual-verification algorithm provides complete immunity against non-fire optical interference such as direct sunlight, arc welding, high-intensity halogen lighting, lightning discharges, and hot machinery radiation.
The detector delivers a guaranteed detection distance of 15 meters for standard hydrogen gas flames and n-Heptane fires across an expansive 90° horizontal and vertical conical Field of View (FOV), with a swift response time of under 5 seconds. This rapid detection enables immediate emergency shut-off of upstream hydrogen isolation valves and initiates automated fire extinguishing systems before combustion escalates into structural damage or high-pressure vapor cloud explosions.
Mechanically, the UX150 Hydrogen is enclosed in a heavy-duty die-cast aluminium housing with an epoxy powder-coated finish (optional SUS316 Stainless Steel), achieving IP66/IP67 ingress protection ratings across an ambient operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C. With hazardous area classifications of Ex db IIB+H2 Gb and Ex db IIC T6 Gb (ATEX, IECEx certified), it is approved for continuous deployment in Zone 1 and Zone 2 explosive hydrogen gas atmospheres. Equipped with Form A Fire Alarm relays, Form B Fault Alarm relays, and an industrial RS-485 Modbus RTU serial interface, it integrates into building fire alarm control panels or industrial SCADA/DCS automation networks.
